Monday, January 16 - Today I'll finalize assignments for the Research Paper assignment, and we'll each set up our Research Paper Folder (a place for you to keep all your research and work in one place)! You'll also likely have time to meet with the other students in your Renaissance Faire booth to share ideas and get excited. Homework for Wednesday: Print out at least one Encyclopedia Britannica and one ABC-Clio article on your topic. Make sure to use the "print page" or "print article" function so that you will get the MLA citation information on your printout! You will have class time on Wednesday to read, so make sure that you have enough reading material to keep your brain going for 30 minutes or so!
Tuesday, January 17 - We'll continue our pilgrimages, likely running into some great examples of medieval architecture! Homework for Tomorrow: Print out at least one Encyclopedia Britannica and one ABC-Clio article on your topic. Wednesday, January 18 - Today you'll have time to read the articles you printed for your research paper. As you read, you'll highlight especially interesting information and write questions in the margins. Homework for Tomorrow: Make a list of at least 10 research questions that you'd like to answer through the research paper writing process. For instance, if you are writing about Roman architecture or engineering, some of the questions might be: How have Roman structures held up in earthquakes? Where did most of the stone come from to build the city of Rome? Did the Romans use explosives to split stone, or did they have other tools? What techniques did the Romans use to lift heavy stones to the tops of their buildings? What was the tallest building built by the Romans? What were the homes of the Roman poor like?
Thursday, January 19 - We'll continue our pilgrimages. Homework for tomorrow: You should have at least two Pilgrimage Journal Entries in your Social Studies Binder at this point. The first entry should reveal something about your character, why you are going on a pilgrimage, some information about your group's itinerary (like the destination your character is most looking forward to reaching), and some description of your experience at Canterbury Cathedral. The second entry should include a description of your pilgrimage experiences from Tuesday and Thursday of this week. If you haven't had class time to finish your entries, do them tonight for homework. Have fun with the assignment and use your imagination!
Friday, January 20 - No Social Studies - have fun with pancakes, chess, and world travel, and have a great weekend!
